Focus On Your Art

Focus On Your Art
September 30, 2014

I recently read a post by a musician talking about generating buzz for your band.

I thought the advice given was good, except there was one BIG problem. There was no mention, whatsoever, about the importance of creating great music. Here's an excerpt:

"You need to commit to doing the daily grunt work of promoting, booking, selling, designing posters and merchandise and hopefully still have time for writing and recording your music. And then put this on repeat."

This is the problem with the music industry. People are so busy trying to get famous, the art is an afterthought. "And hopefully still have time for writing and recording your music"??? Are you kidding me?!

Don't get me wrong. Promoting and booking and selling is an important piece to a successful career in music. But, what about the product you are selling? Great marketing of a poor product only makes the product fail faster.

I think what we forget sometimes is that if the product (music) is good enough it will sell itself. If you really want to cut through the noise and get people to notice you, create something that demands attention. Put in the work to make your recordings amazing. Put in hours and hours (try 10,000 maybe?) crafting your songs.

Do I promote myself? Absolutely. Is marketing a necessity? Yes. And marketing and promotion BEGINS with writing and recording something undeniably spectacular.

Spotify Playlist: Don't

Spotify Playlist: Don't
September 29, 2014
www.kurtscobie.com/blogs

Many people ask me who my favorite artists are, and what I like to listen to. So, I have created some Spotify playlists to share, featuring some songs that I like.

"Don't" by Ed Sheeran is at the top of this particular list. I love this song (and this entire album). As I have done for each of these lists, I have included a couple of my original songs that I think are similar. As well as other similar songs from artists I like.

If you think of a song that might fit, feel free to add it! This is a Collaborative Playlist!

Cheers!

Many people ask me who my favorite artists are, and what I like to listen to. So, I have created some Spotify playlists to share, featuring some songs that I like.

"My Favorite" by Gabe Dixon kicks off this one. Followed by some other similar songs (including a couple of my own). Kinda like Pandora Radio, except there is a real person coming up with the playlist instead of a machine.

This is a Collaborative Playlist, so I hope you will add your favorite songs that are similar to the ones I selected.

Cheers!

Many people ask me who my favorite artists are, and what I like to listen to. So, I thought I would create some Spotify playlists and share them, and include some songs that I like.

This playlist begins with "Sailboat" by Ben Rector and is followed by songs that, in my opinion, are similar. And, of course, you'll find a couple of my original songs on there.

So, I thought I'd begin to create some Spotify playlists and share them, and include some songs that I like.

This playlist begins with "Brave" by Sara Bareilles and is followed by songs that, in my opinion, are similar. And, of course, you'll find a couple of my original songs on there. Kinda like Pandora Radio, except there is a real person coming up with the playlist instead of a machine.

This is a Collaborative Playlist, so I hope you will add your favorite songs that are similar to the ones I selected.

Cheers!

Crash is Back

Crash is Back
September 17, 2014

Most of you probably didn't notice it missing, because you already have it. But, my first studio EP "Crash" had been taken down from iTunes and most other online digital music stores (still waiting on a few of 'em). I switched distribution companies so there was a little bit of a lapse in availability.

Thankfully, it went back up without a hitch! And I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do a little shameless plugging for this project which I released almost four years ago. It is hard to believe it has been that long.

If you haven't yet heard this little EP, I hope you'll take a few minutes and check it out. Here are a few places where you can find it:

iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/crash-ep/id916592542
Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Crash-Kurt-Scobie/dp/B00NEFDY5Q/ref=ntt_mus_ep_dpi_2
Spotify: http://t.co/Wv6oE9yZ54

I am still proud of this project and the work that went into it by my producer, Jake Rye, and the studio musicians. Not to mention the awesome photos by Andy Brophy and design work by Zach May. I hope you like it.

P.S. If you would be so kind as to leave a review of "Crash" on iTunes or wherever you purchase it, I would be thrilled! Unfortunately, all of the reviews that were there before are now gone.

The Lullaby - 3

The Lullaby - 3

It has been three years since my wife and I said a painful goodbye to our daughter, Bella Grace. She was born still on September 8th, 2011 and we will never forget her. She made such an impact on us then and she continues to impact us today!

I almost didn't release this song, because I wrote it for Bella, anticipating her arrival. But, I'm glad I did. I look forward to the day when I can sing this over my baby girl in heaven.

Worship Album: "Covered" with Montell Jordan

Worship Album: "Covered" with Montell Jordan
September 2, 2014

If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you may have seen some posts about a special side project I have been a part of. Well, today is the day!

Montell Jordan and Victory World Music have put together a collection of worship songs, recorded LIVE! That album, "Covered", is available today! I love my church, Victory World Church, and these cover songs come from the depths of our hearts.

I had the honor of singing "Holy Wedding Day" on this album. So, be sure to listen to that one first! :) Seriously, though, every song we are very proud of. We hope you like it.

The "Covered" album is available here:
